Ramnaresh Sarwan appointed new West Indies captain

Guyanese batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has been named as the new captain of the West Indies following the retirement of Brian Lara.
Sarwan has been placed on probation with strict performance targets. He will lead West Indies on tour to England next month. The tour continues to be shrouded in confusion after contractual talks between the board and West Indies Players Association (WIPA), recently broke down. The issue is now being overseen by arbitrators.
Born on June 23, 1980, Sarwan, who will be 27 in June this year, made his Test debut against Pakistan at Bridgetown in May, 2000. He made his one-day international debut in July of that year. He has played 65 Tests, scored 4268 runs at an average of 38.30. He has nine Test hundreds and 26 half centuries. His highest Test score is 261 not out. He has played 124 one-day internationals, scored 4099 runs at an average of 44.55. He has three ODI hundreds and 26 half centuries. His overall First-class aggregate is 159 matches for 9323 runs at an average of 37.14.
He has taken 23 Test wickets at an average of 45.30 per wicket. In ODIs, he has taken 12 wickets at an average of 39.33. The major teams that he has played for are the West Indies, Gloucestershire, Guyana was brought up in the South American rainforests around the Essequibo River. He took over as Brian Lara's vice-captain in March 2003.

Kevin Pietersen and Paul Nixon spoiled Brian Lara's farewell to international cricket as England snatched a dramatic one-wicket win over West Indies.
Pietersen (100) and Nixon (38) kept England in the hunt and Stuart Broad hit the winning runs as as they reached 301-9 with one ball to spare.
Skipper Michael Vaughan produced an excellent all-round performance, taking 3-39 and then scoring 79 off 68 balls.
West Indies earlier made 300 all out with Brian Lara run out for 18.

Samuels included in West Indies World Cup squad

Allrounder Marlon Samuels, who is under investigation by the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption unit, has been included in the West Indies squad for the World Cup starting in the Caribbean next month.
